Design an action, which would be suggested when threads get too large, that would logically separate various mixed or separate subjects of conversation into separate threads, automatically. A fallback request would be some way to manually rejigger the thread into sections for easy separation

When a thread gets too large, due to mixed subjects (not best practice, i know), the user must switch ultimately to a new thread and ‘start over’ with valuable historical data inside the existing thread. A AI-driven detangling of mixed subjects, and separation of those discussions and information would allow the migration from a novice-style of conversation to a set of separated subjects and make the continued use of this tool more attractive, esp to new users.

Hello Perplexity Team and Community,

I’d like to suggest a feature that would greatly enhance managing complex conversations within Perplexity AI.

Feature Description:
Enable users to select sections of a long thread and automatically create new “subthreads” or “threadlets” from those sections. These subthreads would inherit the relevant context and history from the original thread, preserving continuity while allowing better organization and focus on distinct topics.

Why this matters:

  • In long, multifaceted conversations, it’s often challenging to keep unrelated topics clear and easy to follow.

  • Manual splitting requires starting over with new threads and losing seamless historical context.

  • Automatically managing logical splits would improve usability, navigation, and clarity.

Suggested Functionality:

  • User highlights or selects a portion of an existing thread.

  • The system offers an option to create a new subthread from that selection.

  • The new thread retains all necessary context/history from the original thread.

  • Both threads remain linked or easily navigable.

  • Optional naming, tagging, and organizational tools for these subthreads.

I believe this feature could significantly improve how users work with Perplexity AI for research, brainstorming, and workflow management with complex or multi-topic needs.
