Google Contacts connector blocked by Google OAuth - "This app is blocked" error

Bug Description
When attempting to connect Google Contacts via the Perplexity connector (using Pipedream OAuth), Google displays the following error:

“This app is blocked — This app tried to access sensitive info in your Google Account. To keep your account safe, Google blocked this access.”

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Go to Perplexity settings > Connectors
  2. Click on Google Contacts
  3. Click “Connect” / “Add connector”
  4. The Pipedream OAuth popup opens
  5. Select Google account
  6. Google immediately shows “This app is blocked” — no way to proceed

Expected Behaviour
Google should show a permissions consent screen allowing the user to grant Perplexity/Pipedream access to Google Contacts.

Actual Behaviour
Google hard-blocks the connection because the Pipedream OAuth app has not been verified by Google for the sensitive Contacts scope.

Environment

  • Browser: Chrome (latest)
  • OS: macOS
  • Date: 24 May 2026
  • Connector: Google Contacts (via Pipedream)

Notes
This is a Google OAuth app verification issue. The Pipedream OAuth client being used by Perplexity needs to go through Google’s verification process for the People API / Contacts scope. Until this is completed, no users will be able to connect Google Contacts.

The issue was resolved. You should be able to connect.
