Issue: The Google Drive connector crashes immediately and does not display any Drive files.
Account: s.zhiharev@gmail.com (Pro plan)
Steps to reproduce:
- Go to Settings → Connectors
- Click on the Google Drive connector
- Connector crashes / shows no files — the panel is empty or closes immediately
What I have verified:
- Google Drive connector shows as “connected” with a checkmark in Perplexity settings
- OAuth permissions are correctly granted in Google Account — confirmed: “View, create, edit and delete all files on Google Drive” permission is visible under connected apps at myaccount.google.com
- Reconnected the connector multiple times with no result
Browsers tested: Chrome and Safari — same result on both
Note: There were 14 JavaScript errors visible in Chrome DevTools console on the Perplexity page. This appears to be a Perplexity-side rendering or API issue, not a Google permissions issue.
Thanks for reporting, @szhiharev! Could you please share the device you are using. As for the connector crash moment, do you mean it doesn’t show the ‘connected’ status?
Here are the details, thanks for looking into this:
- Primary browser for using Perplexity: Comet.
- I also tested the same issue in Safari (latest stable) and Chrome (latest stable).
- Device: MacBook (Apple Silicon, macOS Sonoma 14.x).
- Account type: personal Perplexity account with Google Drive connector enabled.
What I mean by “connector crashes”:
- I go to Connectors → Google Drive and start the connection flow.
- Google OAuth completes successfully (I select the account and allow access).
- After returning to Perplexity, the Drive connector briefly shows a loading state and then:
- it does not keep a persistent “Connected” status,
- and Google Drive files do not appear in the available file sources.
Additional observations:
- My primary browser for Perplexity is Comet, and that is where I first noticed the issue.
- I then reproduced the same behavior in Safari and Chrome.
- I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the Google Drive connector, including removing the app from Google Account connected apps/security settings and authorizing again — same result.
- There is no clear UI error message; it just fails to stay connected after OAuth completes.
- The Google account itself works normally with other apps that use Google Drive, so the Google side seems fine.
If helpful, I can also provide:
- a short screen recording,
- exact timestamps with timezone,
- browser console logs,
- or any other diagnostics you need.
I believe I might be experiencing the same issue. I have successfully connected Perplexity to Google Drive. This has been confirmed by me adding the connection to a chat and then asking Perplexity to summarize a file by name.
I noticed this issue when I am trying to add files to a Space. When I am in a space, I choose “Add files…”. From the Files pop-up window, I choose the plus button to add files, followed by selecting “Google Drive”.
At this point, an entirely new browser window launches for a few seconds before it suddenly disappears. During it’s brief existence, I can see a Google logo within the pop-up window. I suspect that this new window is intended to allow me to select which files or folders I would like added to my space. Unfortunately, the window is gone before it reaches that point.
I have tried this on 2 different Windows PCs. One each computer, I have tried using Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. And I have tried using an incogneto/private browsing sessions as well.
I first tired this a few days ago. And this is my first experience using the Google Drive connector. So I am not completely sure what the expected behavior is. But the issue is potentially related to what @szhiharev reported.
If it would help, I could provide details similar to @szhiharev, but from a Windows machine.
The same thing happened to me, couldn’t connect to the drive to get the Excel sheet at all. Whenever I clicked on “Add files from cloud”, a Google page just popped up for 2 seconds and disappeared
